The Gathering Quilted Tote
I call it The Gathering because this block reminds me of loved ones around a table—simple shapes meeting in the middle. Each tote is labor intensive— I start by scouring and mordanting the fabric, then hand dip-dye each piece in a natural indigo vat. I follow up with hand-cutting each piece of fabric, hand stamp the lining (with hand carved stamps by artist Paige Exshaw), machine-piece it for strength, and finish with big stitch hand quilting for that soft, lived-in texture. It a true labor of love with a nod to traditional methods. Beautiful and unique in the hands, made for everyday errands—and it always draws compliments when I carry one into town.
