The Lone Star Tote Quilt Pattern

$12.00

My daughter has always loved star blocks—especially the Lone and Ohio Star blocks. So when it came time to make her a graduation gift, I knew exactly what to do. This quilted tote is one of a trio of gifts I have designed and quilted for her—each one stitched by hand, each one part of a small collection rooted in memory, meaning, and love. I hand-dyed the fabric using natural indigo (you’ll find the recipe and full process on the blog), then hand quilted each panel with care. The design pares down the classic Lone Star into a modern, portable format—something beautiful and practical she can carry with her wherever life takes her next. I hope it becomes a keepsake she treasures—and maybe yours will, too.

  • Skill Level: Confident Beginner

  • 100% original pattern

  • Downloadable PDF

  • Includes step-by-step instructions for creating a quilted tote bag

  • Classic Lone Star-style center made with easy hourglass blocks (QSTs)

  • Fully lined with boxed corners, sturdy strap, and room to customize

  • Designed to finish at 16" × 16"

  • Makes a thoughtful gift or a beautiful everyday carry

  • All Exshaw Quilts patterns assume 44" WOF and ¼" seam allowance

I love the rustic vibes of hand quilted and naturally dyed quilts. It’s something you will see throughout my quilt pattern collection. There is something truly beautiful and timeless about a hand stitched quilt; they are full of texture— something you can not find in a machine quilted piece. They remind me of cozy old farmhouses, American Folk Art and the comfort of a simple life.

All sales final. If you have questions before purchasing, please contact me before ordering. I’m happy to help answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for supporting my work. Creating art and having it showcased in your home is one of my deepest honours.

Happy quilting!
