The Linkin Quilt is one of the most personal quilts I’ve ever designed. It’s a comfort quilt I’m making for my son—something to wrap him up in, a reminder that he is loved and cherished. I’m not ready to share the full story behind it just yet, but I will say this: he chose this design without knowing its history. The Swiss Cross (adopted as the symbol of the Red Cross in 1863) represents hope, care, and relief in times of crisis. I think it’s the perfect choice, and so fitting for what has happened. I took creative liberty with the colors for him, but the meaning remains the same. May we all give and receive that kind of comfort ❤️🩹
The Linkin Quilt is a bold, graphic patchwork quilt built from simple squares and rectangles. Each block forms a cross, creating a timeless, meditative repeat that feels both modern and rooted in tradition. Whether stitched in crisp solids, subtle natural dyes, or quiet contrasts, this quilt is designed to be lived with and loved. The pattern finishes at 108" × 108"—a generous size that fits a Queen bed and can easily be styled as a King depending on your desired drop.
Skill Level: Confident Beginner
• Downloadable PDF
• Includes step-by-step cutting and piecing instructions
• Block-based construction with clear diagrams
• Binding and finishing guidance included
• Pattern finishes at 108" × 108" (fits Queen or King depending on drop)
• Perfect for solids, hand-dyed fabrics, or bold two-color contrasts
• All Exshaw Quilts patterns assume 42" WOF and ¼" seam allowance
I designed the Linkin Quilt to be approachable and meditative, with a rhythm that feels good in the making. It’s simple enough for newer quilters, yet satisfying for seasoned makers who want to slow down and create something large and meaningful. If you’re interested in learning how to hand quilt, I’ve linked my favorite tutorial here.
All sales are final. If you have questions before purchasing, please reach out—I want you to feel confident in your purchase.
Thank you so much for supporting my work. It means the world to me that something I designed might be stitched into your everyday.
With warmth,
Kim
