The Spirit Bear Quilt Pattern
A quilt that captures the quiet magic of coastal rainforests—meet the Spirit Bear Quilt Pattern.
Legend speaks of the Spirit Bear (Kermode bear), a rare white-furred black bear found only in the mist-draped Great Bear Rainforest and the islands of Princess Royal and Gribbell on British Columbia’s central and north coast. Fewer than 500 of these bears exist; their pale coats come from a recessive gene cherished by local First Nations and protected within this wild, temperate ecosystem. Wikipedia Discover Wildlife
This pattern—originally released in my 2022 as a finished piece—celebrates that quiet, creamy white guardian. Pieced bear-paw blocks radiate from a bold centre cross, echoing the Spirit Bear’s stealthy footprints through cedar and spruce. Whether you’re stitching beside a crackling fire or gathering friends for a rainy-day sew-along, each block invites slow, mindful making and a moment of west-coast wonder.
• Skill Level— Confident beginner (straight seams, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles)
• Finished Size 68″ × 68″ throw
• Downloadable PDF with step-by-step photos and cutting diagrams
• 100% original Exshaw Quilts design
• All Exshaw Quilts patterns assume 42″ WOF and ¼″ seam allowance
All sales are final. If you have any questions before purchasing, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help. Tutorials are available on my blog and YouTube channel.
Thanks for supporting my work—and for letting my designs become part of your story.
With care,
