Step by Step: Sew Your Free Cross My Heart Wall Hanging with This Simple, Meaningful Quilt Pattern

Stitch something special with the Cross My Heart Wall Hanging Quilt Pattern. This free quilt pattern tutorial celebrates love, promises, and slow stitching. Perfect for beginners!

There are quilts we make for the seasons—and then there are the ones that hold a piece of our story. Cross My Heart was one of those for me. I designed it to mark my 20th wedding anniversary, a quiet celebration of love, loyalty, and the vows that keep us anchored through time.

This wall hanging is simple in construction but full of heart. Made entirely from half-square triangles (HSTs), it’s a beautiful project for beginners and seasoned quilters alike. The design forms a bold, modern cross motif that feels timeless and symbolic—perfect for anniversaries, weddings, or simply to hang as a daily reminder of the promises that matter most.

Whether you’re stitching it as a gift or creating it for your own home, Cross My Heart is the kind of project that invites you to slow down and reflect with every seam.

About the Cross My Heart Quilt

  • Finished Size: 16" x 24"

  • Skill Level: Beginner

  • Techniques Used: Half-square triangles (8-at-a-time method), basic piecing, machine or hand quilting, and binding.

The pattern uses just two fabrics—a light and a dark—to create the soft contrast that brings the cross motif to life. I chose quilting cotton in brown and cream for their warmth and subtle depth, but it also looks stunning in high-contrast colors like indigo and cream, scarlet and sand, or even scrappy neutrals from your stash.

It’s a versatile design that fits right into a cozy home—whether you hang it in your living room, entryway, or bedroom as a reminder of love and strength. I’ve been known to use it as a placemat for the dining table too!
